The IU Health Bloomington Hospital at the Regional Academic Health Center, is a 600,000 SF hospital that replaced the former hospital to launch a new model of healthcare on Indiana University's Bloomington campus.  It provides an environment to practice, teach, learn, heal, and ultimately improve the quality of life of those it serves.

Carson Design Associates was a key partner in developing the overall interior concepts for the hospital. Introducing the concept of Shades of Southern Indiana to provide patient, family, physician, and employee experiences that are welcoming, intuitive, and serene. Incorporating large mosaic tile murals, of original art provided by local artists, are hallmarks in each Elevator Lobby and the Dining Room. Details like this connect the facility with its surroundings, underscores IU Health’s commitment to cultivating a culture of community pride while enhancing the emotional wellbeing of those served by the facility.

Material finish selections, standardization and documentation were also key responsibilities of the Carson Team. Providing consistent use of durable materials within aesthetically pleasing and comfortable spaces was crucial for the success of the building.

The complexity of the project, along with having numerous firms involved, presented an opportunity and challenge. Collaborative efforts by all team members were key to the overall success of the project.
