The Whit

For The Whit project in Indianapolis, Carson Design Associates had the opportunity to create spaces that are beautiful, functionable, and intriguing. The community space for a fun and accessible downtown Indianapolis apartment building was designed to optimize and harmonize the multiple uses in which the built environment would be tested.

Located where the old Indy Star building once sat, this luxury apartment space features clean, contemporary lines and simple layouts. Serving a millennial seeking the buzz and excitement of living steps away from Mass Ave., or an empty nester looking to downsize and find a quiet but enjoyable environment.

The process of designing the community space was intriguing for us as it needed to be multi-generational and flexible. Supporting tenants socializing as well as a baby shower or friendly card game happening concurrently was important. Mesh draperies, flexible furniture groupings, area rugs as well as dedicated gaming areas created those opportunities.

Couple of fun facts:

• The ceiling hung wood pallets were refurbished from deliveries to the site and used to highlight the central vertical building shaft.

• The digital wall covering created to pay homage to the Indy Star is a word search with prominent words to be found – Do you see any?
